SUMO Champions Exhibition
The Japan Center Malls and the Japantown Merchants Association invite you to join us for the 4th Annual Sumo Champions Exhibition in the Japantown Peace Plaza. The four-time World Sumo Champion, five-time US Sumo Champion, current US Sumo Champion, and the heaviest Japanese sumo wrestler EVER will all descend on San Francisco to compete in a Sumo Champions Exhibition in Japantown’s Peace Plaza. Join us for free (and bring the family) to meet real Sumo Wrestlers, learn about life as a Sumo and watch live matches.
All four wrestlers have been invited to compete by The Japan Center Malls and the Japantown Merchant’s Association, and in partnership with USA Sumo:
- Yama, 6’4″, 600 lbs, 2-time World Sumo Champion & Heaviest Japanese human being EVER!
- Byamba: 6’1″, 370 lbs, 4-time World Sumo Champion
- Kelly: 6’0″, 440 lbs, five-time US Sumo Champion and Guinness World Record holder as the heaviest human ever to run a marathon
- Roy: 6’5″, 380 lbs, current US Sumo Champion
The Japan Center Malls and the adjacent blocks of Japantown are home to scores of unique shops and restaurants that provide a wonderful opportunity for visitors and locals alike to explore and experience the customs and culture of Japan right in the heart of San Francisco.This event is FREE and is made possible with support from The Japan Center Malls and the Japantown Merchants Association, and in partnership with USA Sumo.
Different from other Bay Area sporting events – or the Olympics, for that matter – anyone who has an interest in the sport, or just happens to be curious about the physical size of these modern-day warriors can actually meet them face-to-face. In addition to the live matches, two meet and greet sessions have been scheduled with one specifically geared toward children:
